Mangaluru, Mar 7: Hindu leader Satyajit Surathkal recently voiced his stance on the Dakshina Kannada (DK) Lok Sabha MP ticket and disclosed his political intentions during an episode of Daijiworld TV's 'Counter Point' programme.
Satyajit Surathkal emphasized his longstanding dedication to the BJP, stating, "I have dedicated my entire life to the service of the BJP. Joining the Congress now holds no significance for me. Therefore, I seek a ticket from the BJP itself." He highlighted his contribution to bolstering the BJP's presence in Mangaluru, asserting, “I have played a pivotal role in establishing a strong foundation for the BJP in Mangaluru."
Addressing his decision to run as an independent candidate previously, Satyajit clarified, "When I contested as an independent candidate, I never disassociated myself from the BJP. It was merely a period where I chose to stand independently, but that does not brand me as anti-BJP or a Congress candidate." He attributed his desire for a BJP ticket to the support and encouragement of his followers, stating, "My supporters are the driving force behind my decision to contest this election and lead them. They have expressed their wish for me to represent them."
Responding to speculations about Congress support, Satyajit questioned the notion, saying, "There are claims that the Congress party is backing me to secure the BJP's MP seat. However, it seems implausible for the Congress to be interested in a candidate from the BJP."
Satyajit continued by addressing speculations about his political alliances, stating, "I had never supported Rakshith Shivram during elections in Beltangady, and the media is merely searching for any mistakes I may have made." He further disclosed his discussions with senior BJP leaders, asserting, "I have clearly conveyed to them that if someone is pushed too hard, they will retaliate."
Regarding potential affiliations with the Congress party, Satyajit remarked, "While I have never engaged with any Congress leaders, it is true that if I express a desire to join Congress, I would likely receive an MP ticket without difficulty. However, I have consistently prevented that from occurring."
Expressing confidence in his relationship with the BJP, he affirmed, "If the BJP declines to provide me with a ticket, I will not stand against the Congress. I believe that the BJP will offer me a ticket, and my request for one is not arbitrary. I have dedicated significant effort, and I trust that I will be granted the opportunity this time."
Addressing the possibility of running as an independent candidate, he stated, "There is no plan to contest independently because I am hopeful of securing the BJP ticket. However, if I am denied the ticket, the decision will be made by Team Satyajit Suratkal, though we are all optimistic about receiving the ticket this time."
When questioned about the aspirations of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to secure the BJP ticket once again, Satyajit responded, "We can only comment once the decision is officially announced. However, I firmly believe that there is no need to contemplate this matter, as I am confident that the ticket will be allotted to me."
