Raipur, Sep 28 (IANS): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Wednesday ordered a probe into the lynching of a tigress by a mob in Rajnandgaon district, a statement said.

"Singh held a meeting with Forest Minister Vikram Usendi and forest officials at his residence and termed the killing as 'extremely unfortunate and sad'. He announced a probe into the matter by the National Tiger Conservation Authority," an official statement said.

The chief minister said his government would take action based on the findings of the authority's probe report.

Officials here at forest headquarters said the authority has set up a four-member team for the probe.

On Sep 24, a village mob lynched a tigress with sticks and stones and then took out a 'victory procession' at Bakhrutola area in Rajnandgaon.

The villagers killed the tigress in presence of forest officials who failed to stop the mob which was determined to kill the seven-foot, 250-kg big cat that had reportedly killed a woman and some 30 domesticated animals in Rajnangaon since late July.
