Arunachal Pradesh, Mar 9: Tenzing Yangki is a beacon of inspiration for many women in Arunachal Pradesh, being the state's first female IPS officer. She achieved this milestone by clearing the UPSC examination in 2022 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 545.
Hailing from a family with a tradition of civil service, Tenzing is the daughter of Thupten Tempa, a former minister of the state who previously served in the IRS and as an IAS officer. Thupten Tempa is the son of the late Nyerpa Khow, whose pivotal role as the first political assistant in Tawang was instrumental in bringing the region under India's governance.
With such a legacy, it was only natural for Tenzing to pursue a career in civil services. Her passion for serving the people was nurtured from a young age, observing numerous commoners seeking assistance from her father and grandfather.
Tenzing initially cleared the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) examination in 2017 before focusing her efforts on the UPSC, which she successfully cleared in 2022.
