Abu Dhabi: Dr B R Shetty Inaugurates New Sports Complex at ADIS

Media Release

Abu Dhabi, Sep 29:
It was a memorable day for the students of Abu Dhabi Indian School and especially sports enthusiasts, with the inaugural of a fully-equipped new sports complex on Tuesday September 27.

The sports complex was inaugurated at a special ceremony by the chairman of the board of governors, Dr B R Shetty, a keen sports enthusiast and president of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.

If schools and education boards were to include sports as part of the main curriculum and award marks for sports, parents and children will devote more time to sports, setting them on the path of a lifetime of fitness. In keeping with this belief, Abu Dhabi Indian School, has upgraded its sports facilities with a revamped 200m. synthetic athletic track with an astro turf football ground in the middle and a newly re-laid tennis court.

The other members of Board of Governors too attended the inaugural function who are selflessly supporting ADIS from the beginning of school existence and have contributed their voluntary services and still providing honorary service to the school through out the year namely Richard D’Souza (hon treasurer) and Sarvotham Shetty (chairman, sports committee).

Also present at the ceremony were V K Mathu (advisor to board of governors and ex-principal, ADIS), N C Vijayachandra (new principal, ADIS), Rishikesh Padegaonkar (new vice-principal, ADIS).

The newly laid synthetic track and the football ground add to the existing facilities of a 25m swimming pool, outdoor basketball, volleyball and softball courts and indoor badminton and table tennis facilities. The Chairman Dr B R  Shetty considered the students fortunate and urged the students to maximize their use of the state of the art facilities and ensure that the student developed sound mind in sound body and exhibited their excellance in both the academic as well as the sports arenas.

The formal inauguration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an official declaration by the  chief guest stating that the sports complex was now open for use was followed by a display of physical skills by a cross-section of the students. Around 400 primary school boys coordinated efforts in a wonderful mass drill. Senior girls performed a tribal dance underlining team spirit and sportsmanship, while the senior boys and girls representing the four Houses took the ceremony to an exiciting finish by running the 4x100m. relay.

Berly David, a athlete was of the opinion that the track was much bouncier and easier to run on. It helped her House, the Autumn House, gain speed and win the relay! The sports complex has been designed to ensure that the school nurtures the love of sport amongst its students from an early age.
