Koppal: BJP Candidate Karadi Sweeps Assembly Bypoll

Daijiworld Media Network – Koppal (SP)

Koppal, Sep 29: At the end of 13th  and final round of counting of votes, Karadi Sanganna has secured 60,405 votes, ahead of Basavaraj Hitnal of the Congress (47917) and Pradip Gowda (20719) of the JD(S). Karadi has won the bypoll with a margin of 12,488 votes.

With this, official announcement of the victory of the BJP candidate has remained a mere formality.

Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, said that the people of Koppal have supported the BJP because of the government’s development initiatives and collective leadership. He said that his government is committed to develop Koppal constituency. Karadi Sanganna said that the people have supported the policies of the state government and the stress laid on development by the BJP.

JD(S), which had won this seat in the last election, has faced the ignominy of lagging far behind its two other rivals. Commenting on the situation, JD(S leader, Y S V Datta, said that the people of the constituency do not seem to have given importance to the issue of corruption, which got widespread support elsewhere after Anna Hazare fast. He said Karadi Sanganna’s personal charisma, his contacts with the voters, his work, influence he wields there, and local issues had given an upper hand to the BJP. He said that the victory is not that of the BJP as a party, but the individual victory of Karadi Sanganna.

Congress leader, Siddaramaiah, refused to meet the media persons or give his comments about the Koppal bypoll result, when contacted. KPCC president, G Parameshwar, accused BJP of distributing money to voters and buying votes. He expressed unhappiness at the failure of the election commission to stop this menace.

In the meanwhile, Laxman Savadi and C C Patil are on a visit of Koppal. The BJP top brass is happy that the voters have wholeheartedly supported the party’s strategy of ‘Operation Kamala’.

Over 70 percent of the around 185,000 voters had cast their ballot in the polling held September 26 for Koppal.

With the Koppal victory, the BJP has 121 members, including the speaker, in the 225-seat house that has one nominated member. It has the support of one Independent.

The Congress has 71 members and JD-S 26. There are five more Independents.

People of Karnataka still consider BJP as the best compared to other two "anti_BJP Mantra" parties. Let BJP use this support to rule better under Sadaananda Gowda. If he rules better rest is assured . No threat from any body. All the best

BJP is not that good , but if you compare with other two, which is better and have done something to the state. Congress ruled many years, but they could not do any development activities. They couldhave done in Railways, Power sectors. Because of them we are in such a bad state. People of Koppal have teached them the lesson. But BJP also cannot take full credit of this vistory. People want developemnt in the state like Gujrat/Delhi, still you have 18 to 20 months, please utilise and show your strengths. As a citizen, I would request the Govt to concentrate on Power, Water, Roads and uphold the language Kannada. being a kannadiga, I feel sad whenever I go to other states, absolutely no importance given to Kannada. For an instance, recently I went to delhi and stayed in one of the best Hotels in Karolbagh, which is the house of South Indians, but not even a single Hotel has Kannada Channel, but other south Indian language with two channels, I felt very bad. Please concentrate on such issuses.

Whenever a political leader makes a charge that money has played a role, then the person making such a charge should immediately file a complaint with evidence that he possesses and bring the truth out. Just for public consumption no statement should be made. HE should also state how election commission has gone wrong.
