Bantwal, Mar 12: A man, enraged by a traffic policeman's fine for violating traffic rules, attempted to set his own auto-rickshaw on fire by dousing it with petrol at B C Road on Monday.
Mohammed Ansar, a resident of Goodinabali, caused a commotion after being fined by the on-duty policeman. Ansar was driving his auto-rickshaw without wearing a uniform and was talking on his mobile phone. Subsequently, Sutesh, a PSI from the Bantwal traffic police station, stopped him and issued a fine of Rs 2000.
Incensed by the fine, Ansar engaged in a verbal altercation with the policemen. In a fit of rage, he poured petrol from his auto-rickshaw in an attempt to set it ablaze.
PSI Sutesh accused Ansar of also pouring petrol on the police vehicle. A case has been filed against Ansar in connection with the incident at the Bantwal city police station.
A viral video captured Ansar expressing his frustration over the fine. In the video, he can be heard screaming that he was fined despite explaining that he did not have any money with him.
