Mangaluru, Mar 12: Indian meteorological department has warned of high temperature and heat wave from March to May. In the wake of this Dakshina Kannada (DK) disaster management authority has instructed public to take proper care.
The disaster management authority said, “There is a possibility that heat wave will have adverse effect on the health of people. Public is advised to hold umbrella while going out in the sun, stay in cool and shaded places, using loose and thin cotton clothing and white coloured cloth to avoid the heat.
“Senior citizens and children are advised to drink more water. Outdoor activities should be avoided from 11 am to 4 pm. Water and buttermilk needs to be taken in more quantity. Cotton or turban hat should be used and house needs to be kept ventilated.
“The person who has suffered heat stroke should be taken to a cooler place and given sponge bath in cold water. If there is no improvement, he or she should be taken to hospital with cooling equipment.
“Mandatory rest needs to be given to labourers who work outdoors. It is better to consume more lime juice to make up for the Vitamin C deficiency that occurred during summer. It is advisable to use jaggery instead of sugar. After getting up in the morning if Tulsi leaves are ground in mixer grinder and consumed with two glasses of water, tiredness will go away. Spicy food should be avoided. Cold water bath is more suitable for this weather. Iodine salt water should be administered to children below the age of five years every half an hour,” the authority stated.
