Delhi Provides Rs 5 cr for Sikkim Relief


New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS): The Delhi government Thursday announced it was contributing Rs.5 crore to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for rehabilitation work in Sikkim following the Sep 18 earthquake.

"There has been a substantial loss of property and lives in the unprecedented earthquake in Sikkim and there is a need to provide all possible help and assistance to the affected people," Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also announced a Rs.1,000 crore grant to Sikkim, where at least 78 people were killed in the 6.8-magnitude temblor.
