Bengaluru, Mar 14: Former BJP chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, who has been chosen as the party candidate from Haveri Lok Sabha constituency, on Thursday taunted the ruling Congress party for its lack of candidates and ministers refusing to contest fearing defeat.
Bommai, called on former chief minister and senior party leader B S Yediyurappa, who is the Central Parliamentary Election Committee member, at his residence in Bengaluru and sought the latter’s blessings.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Yediyurappa, Bommai said the veteran BJP leader has blessed me and has promised to campaign for me in the elections.
The BJP leader said the party has selected former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda’s son-in-law Dr C N Manjunath as its candidate from Bengaluru Rural constituency, and said the JDS leader’s son was known for helping lakhs of people. BJP is a party which recognises service, he said.
Bommai also praised the selection of the scion of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraj Wadiyar as the BJP candidate from Mysuru and said it has given the right message to the entire South Karnataka.
The BJP leader ridiculed Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar for claiming that 3 sitting BJP MPs and many BJP MLAs were in touch with him for joining Congress and pointed out the Congress party is finding it difficult to choose candidates and its ministers are refusing to contest fearing defeat.
