Bantwal, Mar 17: A collision between a government bus and a car left the car driver seriously injured on Sunday, March 17, at Bambila on the Bantwal-Beltangady National Highway.
The driver of the car, Cyril D'Souza, a resident of Madhwapalke in Kavalpadur village, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
The accident occurred when a bus traveling towards Beltangady collided with a car heading towards Vagga at the turn near Bambila Bridge. The impact of the collision caused the front of the car to become lodged under the bus and sustain severe damage. Emergency responders managed to extricate the car driver from the wreckage, and he was promptly transported to the hospital by locals in a private ambulance.
Cyril suffered a broken leg but fortunately survived the ordeal.
Meanwhile, the onlookers took the bus driver to task on the spot. Bantwal Traffic SI Suthesh and Bantwal Rural Police Station SI Harish visited the scene and conducted an inspection.
Locals expressed their dissatisfaction with the frequent accidents at this spot, attributing them to unscientific diversions during highway development. Traffic Sub-Inspector Suthesh assured that he would urge the highway authority to take necessary measures to enhance road safety in the area.
