Mangaluru, Mar 19: Police arrested four in three separate incidents of selling ganja in the city.
In the first incident, a youth was apprehended while selling ganja near the railway flyover in Padil, within the jurisdiction of the Kankanady police station.
The arrested individual, Mohammed Nizam alias Nijja, hailing from Kallapur Patla, was found in possession of 254 grams of ganja and a mobile phone valued at Rs 9900. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against him.
It was revealed that a warrant had been issued against Nijja a year ago by the Ullal police station. However, he had been evading court appearances and was on the run.
In the second incident, Konaje police detained two youths for allegedly selling ganja in Vamajoor, located in the Tiruvail village, on March 14.
The arrested individuals are identified as Ashraf alias Ponga Ashraf (30) and Mohammed Alfaz (26), both residents of Tilaknagar. Police seized 115 grams of ganja and mobile phones from the accused, with an estimated value of Rs 10300.
A warrant had been issued against Ashraf by the Konaje police station six months prior to his arrest. Despite this, he had been evading court hearings and was absconding.
In the third incident, Ummer Farukh alias Mangal Farukh alias Kunhimonu (68), resident of Katipalla, was arrested on the accusation of selling ganja on his Activa scooter at Bola Lavakusha Kambala grounds of Naringana village. The police confiscated 998 grams of ganja worth Rs 20000 and scooter used in the act from the accused. The total value of the confiscated goods is Rs 52,800.
