Mangalore, Oct 2: Melwin D Silva has assumed charge as the new Station Manager of Air India, Mangalore a week ago.    He took over from Chellum Prasad who has been transferred to Chennai.  Melwin who is the Dy General Manager at Air India, will function as the Station Manager of Air India, Mangalore.    For Melwin a native of Mangalore but born and brought up in Ahmedabad, this is like homecoming as he had served here for a four-year period between 1998 and 2002 before being transferred as Station Manager to Goa.

Melwin, who is a MBA from B K School of Management in Gujarat, had joined Indian Airlines in Ahmedabad and has worked in various capacities and also as the Country Manager in Pakistan between 2006 and 2008.  In Ahmedabad, he worked as the first Station Manager of the integrated Indian Airlines-Air India which merged to become Air India.

Talking to Daijiworld Melwin said he would give priority to add new avenues to the existing set up.  “Our international flights are doing very well and we are definitely looking for opportunities so as to strengthen our network in Mangalore” he said.   On asked whether Air India’s image has taken a beating in the recent past, he pointed out “it is only the perception of the people which changes once they fly with us.  We have a good image as compared to our competitors and we would like to strengthen the existing image and at the same time look for other avenues to improve our image”.

On asked what it feels to be in Mangalore after a gap of almost 10 years he said that in the last 10 years Mangalore has undergone myriad changes including Indian Airlines getting merged to become Air India.   “Now it is a bigger picture as compared to what Mangalore was 10 years ago.  The airport has got the status of international airport and now we are working on a bigger canvass.  Since I have worked here and have good rapport with the staff and the people it would be easier for me to accomplish what I have in mind”, he ascertained.

    Sir,
Welcome to Mangalore. Many of the passengers have several complaints or suggesstions to offer. It was with great excitement we looked forward to fly home via Air India .It was a blessing to reach home to Mangalore, just in few specially for some of us who had small children. Not many of us would have said thank you to the authorities for such a convenience.
As years passed by all of us have witnessed the hike in aifare, poor inflight services, poor quality of the food served etcetc. The list of complaints go on.....The services offered are deteriorating while the prices are increasing!!!.
All of us still chose to fly Air India as it is one convenient way home.Do not exploit the passengers but be fair and good enough to offer us valuable services for the exorbitant rates u charge all of us..I am sure you will reach great heights if you just change your attitude in treating us better. Do not turn a deaf ear to our complaints but make Airindia a better place to fly!!!

Despite having protection status by the Govt. of India by having maximum monopoly it is still bleeding and incurs losses of up to 30cr per day. Upright gentleman like Melwin should strive to get the airline back into profits because we the tax payers cannot be allowed to suffer anymore!!!

Congrats Melwin on getting posted in your hometown. Hope you do something to cut the heavy losses AirIndia is suffering every day. Some of my freinds working for AirIndia are getting salaries once in 2 months. They say AirIndia is the best for all except for the passengers who opt to fly it. Kindly get it back on track and save the tax payers money!! God Bless...

Welcome to Mangalore Melwin D Silva to take up the new assignment of Station Manager for Air India Express.

You have a lot to look into on the operations of Air India Express concerning flights to the Middle East.To start from the baggage counter where we are not even left out a kilogram of Baggage without incurring baggage charges.

Also the Food/snacks served in the Airline is of sub-standard quality. You rather not serve it in the flight. Steps should be taken to improve the quality when we pay an Exorbitant fare to Air India Express.
The Airfare as already pointed by the readers is at its high. The other Flights plying to India from Dubai are offering good rates. We have no other choice but to fly by Air India Express as there are no other Airlines operating.

Wishing yoy all the best in your new venture.

Dear Melwyn Dsilva congratulation ! but you need to help mangalorean from monopoly attitude of AI express ticket to Mangalore kept very high knowing the fact that we don’t have any other option of direct flight for example one way ticket for 28th oct in AI express is AED 1320 same day if i have to travel Dubai- Mumbai Mangalore by Air India it is just AED 870 AI Express is costlier by AED 450 again King Fisher via Bangalore cost much less direct flight of air Arabia to Bangalore cost just AED 680 in spite of more distance Flight to Kerala is available within AED 500 Further Dubai-london return flight is AED2900 in Emirates where same duration Dubai Mangalore return flight costs AED 2750 Daji please take this matter with Air India Express Administration

Dear Melwyn congratulation..there is a big corruption in Mangalore Airport. All Customs officers and staffs making lot of money everdays .. if we take 32 inch lcd tv ..they are asking 5000 to 10000 rupees.  why it is happening in our own native?, why nobody questioning this. bcz 32 inch tv freely allowed in every airport.  why they r making black money from us?? there are 2 guys in customs. every time they are asking tht. wht u bought from dubai?? they dnt hav any reason to ask abt this.so we have to fight against this corruption ..
