Chikkamagaluru, Mar 27: "BJP leaders will discuss and criticize that the state will go bankrupt if Guarantee schemes are given to strengthen the lives of poor people. But when millions of crores of loans are waived off to big businessmen, the leaders do not discuss it," criticized Congress candidate from Udupi Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, K Jayaprakash Hegde.
Speaking at a meeting of Congress workers held at Vokkaligara Bhavan in the city, he said, “I will work as the voice of the people and do what is needed for the development of the constituency. My job is to be among people and respond to people's problems. I have worked at the gram panchayat level during my two years of tenure as an MP. People should decide who will respond to their difficult times. The BJP has no other issues to target me, so they have misinterpreted my statements and made allegations," he said.
Speaking at the meeting, state energy minister K J George said, “Shobha Karandlaje, after losing in Bengaluru, came to Udupi-Chikkamagaluru; now she has been chased away by the BJP workers as she did not work as an MP for two consecutive terms in the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. Congress has a capable candidate for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. People know how Jayaprakash Hegde worked when he was MP for two years.” Therefore, he appealed to the people that Jayaprakash Hegde should be elected as the MP.
The meeting was presided over by Congress district president Dr. Amshumanth Gowda. MLAs Rajegowda, G H Srinivas, Tammaiah, Nayana Motamma, former ministers Motamma, B B Ningiah, Dr. B L Shankar, former MLC Gayathri Shantegowda, AICC secretary B M Sandeep, former MLA MP Kumaraswamy, B P Harish, Dr D L Vijayakumar Manjegowda, and Sivananda Swamy were present.
