Mangaluru, March 27: The CCB police identified an accused carrying ganja from Vishakapatnam to Mangaluru via Bengaluru and selling it in Mangaluru. The police confiscated 6.325 kilos of ganja from the drug peddler.
On obtaining definite information of the purchase of ganja at VIshakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on March 27 and of carrying the same to Mangaluru by train in small packets to sell them to students and the public in Mangaluru, the police arrested Nishanth Shetty (35) in Thokkottu, Ullal in the vicinity of Krishnanagar, who is permanently residing at Kelarai Church Road, Kudupu, Vamanjoor and is currently residing at Baby Complex, Neermarga junction, Mangaluru.
The police confiscated from him an Ashok Leyland Dost goods tempo bearing the registration number KA-19-AE-3448, 6.325 kilos of ganja worth Rs 1,50,000 being carried in it, two mobile phone handsets, a digital weighing scale and other goods. The total value of the goods confiscated by the police was Rs 9,11,500.
A case in this connection was registered at Ullal police station.
A case of assault at Mangaluru rural police station limits, cases of illegal possession of pistol and theft in Mangaluru east police station limits, a case of snatching gold chain in Barke police station limits, a case of assault under Ullal police station limits, a case of assault under Vitla police station limits and a case of ganja peddling under Puttur rural police station had been registered in the past against the accused.
The arrest operation was conducted under the leadership of CCB unit ACP Geetha Kulkarni by police inspector Shyam Sunder H M, PSI Basavarajappa and CCB staff.
