Sullia: Anti-naxal forces in need of basic infrastructure to combat naxalism

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (MS)

Sullia, Mar 28: Naxalites who live in forests are in constant touch with people living in the mainland. They escape the police operations by using the latest technology. They have with them lethal weapons like AK 47. If they come face to face with Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), the ANF does not have armaments to counter them.

Naxalites make use of GPS equipment to move inside the forest. They also use laptop, satellite and smart phones. As the charge of their equipment gets over, they get them recharged inside the homes of people living on the edge of the forest. ANF officials say that for the same reason they have recently visited houses at Ainekidu.

To confirm this statement, satellite phones were used sometime ago in Madikeri forest area. ANF did combing operation also. Later, the satellite phones were heard functioning in the forest areas of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod. The operation was kept a secret. Though it was said then that the satellite phones are used by terrorists, the recent developments say that they were actually used by naxals.

Naxals are monitored at every stage of their movement by people who are living in the mainland and those who are deputed to track their movements. So they escape from the eagle eyes of ANF. The people who live on the edge of the forests also have a soft corner towards the naxals. They are of the opinion that people who live in the mainland are more dangerous than the naxalites.

Once the naxal movement in the mainland is reported, senior officials of ANF ask the personnel to begin combing operation that runs for two to three days continuously. Though a day’s food is provided to the combing personnel at the base camp, food for the remaining days has to be prepared inside the forest. So the personnel have to carry the same along with the arms.

The ANF personnel have only one bulletproof jacket and a helmet. However, the most wanted naxal like Vikram Gowda has the ultra modern AK 47 rifle in his possession. However. the ANF team has no capability to counter such sophisticated weaponry of the naxals.

During elections, police and excise personnel are busy with work related to the same. Naxals make use of the opportunity and show their presence during this time. In 2018, they showed their presence in Karkala. This time around they are seen at Subramanya. The basic aim of the naxals is to attack polling centres and take away the EVM machines and show their strength at the national-level.

According to the residents who were visited by the naxals, the latter had two local guns and two ultra modern small sized weapons. Naxals in north India raid the armoury of police and loot armaments. In other parts they buy it illegally.
