Mangaluru, Mar 29: In a bid to reintegrate naxals into mainstream society, the state government has introduced a novel initiative offering Rs 7.5 lac to those who voluntarily surrender.
In addition to the cash reward, they will receive skill training, withdrawal of cases against them, and rehabilitation. This scheme, initially launched in 2015, has been recently revised.
Naxals are categorized into three groups. A-category individuals, including active members of central, regional, or state committees, will receive Rs 7.5 lac, while B and C-category members will be awarded Rs four and two lac respectively. Category B includes members of underground armed groups, while Category C comprises individuals supporting naxal activities.

Surrendered naxals will also receive incentives for surrendering weapons and providing additional information. Those opting for skill training will receive Rs 5000 per month for two years.
The state government is also contemplating the withdrawal of cases against surrendered naxals, providing legal assistance through lawyers, and expediting legal proceedings through fast-track courts.
Already, 14 naxals, including women, have surrendered and been rehabilitated by the state government. According to a senior official, this initiative aims to encourage naxals to abandon their forest lifestyles and embrace civic life.
