President Condoles Death of Bhagwat Jha Azad


New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI): President Pratiba Patil on Monday condoled the death of former Bihar chief minister Bhagwat Jha Azad. President Patil, who is on a state visit to Switzerland, said Azad was a public figure deeply committed to the welfare of the people of Bihar. A six-time member of the
Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur in Bihar, Azad died in New Delhi today after a prolonged illness. He was 89.

Azad, father of cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad, had been ailing for some time and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

A veteran Congressman, Azad was the Chief Minister of Bihar between February 14, 1988, and March 10, 1989.
