Udupi: Three held in areca nut theft case, items worth Rs 4.05 lac seized

Udupi, Apr 3: Shankaranarayana police have arrested three individuals involved in a recent areca nut theft case. The arrested individuals have been identified as Amir Zainuddin (23) from Gulwadi, Kundapur, Nisar Asif Annar (24), a resident of Usman Nagar, Bhatkal, and Munawar (21), a resident of Bilalakhand, Bhatkal.

It is alleged that the accused stole nuts by breaking into several nut trading shops within the Shankaranarayana police station limits. The accused are believed to have committed theft in areas such as Haladi and Kudru Bailur, as well as Jadkal under the Kollur police station, and Nojadi under the Gangolli police station.

Police have seized 11.65 quintals of betel leaves from the accused. Additionally, pickups and scooters used in the theft have been confiscated. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be Rs 4.05 lac. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
