Leader of Haqqani Network Killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Oct 5 (IANS): A senior leader of the militant Haqqani network was killed in a NATO air strike in eastern Afghanistan, Xinhua reported Wednesday.

Dilawar and two of his associates were killed in Musa Khel district of Khost province Tuesday. He was a close aide of Haji Mali Khan, the head of the network in Afghanistan, who was captured a week ago from neighbouring Paktia province.

The network, an ally of the Taliban, was founded by Mawlawi Jalaludin Haqqani and is led by his son Sirajudin Haqqani. The group has been fighting against Afghan and NATO-led troops.
