Apple Co-founder Steve Jobs Dies at 56

Washington, Oct 6 (IANS): Apple co-founder and former-CEO Steve Jobs died Wednesday surrounded by his family. He was 56.

Jobs had been struggling with cancer since 2003. He underwent a successful surgery in 2004 and a liver transplantation in 2008.

"Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family. We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief," Xinhua quoted Jobs' family as saying in a statement.

Apple's website Thursday changed to "Steve Jobs: 1955-2011," along with the most iconic picture in which the scraggly bearded charismatic visionary posed with one hand up to his chin.

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," RIA Novosti reported the company in a statement. "Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Apple Board of Directors also said that "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Steve Jobs was one of the greatest examples of success in the history of American business. He dropped out of college after one year, and never received a degree in technology. This future Apple CEO earned his living by collecting empty bottles before he started working at a company that produced video games.

Jobs and Stephen Wozniak founded Apple Computer in 1976. He is credited with being the mastermind of the company's iconic products - iPhone and iPad.

This August, the legendary chief executive officer of Apple Inc., resigned and had named Cook to the post.

Jobs had taken a medical leave of absence earlier this year, the third in his battle with pancreatic cancer that began in 2004.

On Aug 24, Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO, saying: "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come."

This morning I read in the online edition of The Hindu the headline: "Steve Jobs, legend of digital age, passes away"

It makes me sad because the world has lost a genius.
Steve built one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity.

By making computers personal and putting the Internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun.

Apple said in a statement announcing his passing."Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives."

I use Apple gadgets like an iPhone and a MacAirBook.
Steve was brilliant and he had visions.
His inventions changed our culture and perceptions.

The world lost a great American.

    Best regards

Not only was Steve Jobs a creative genius of our times but most importantly he was a great human being to whom money did not mean much personally. He was an adopted child unwanted by his biological parents but much loved by the parents who adopted him. He ped out of college but inspite of all this achieved greatness of the kind which only a few people have achieved in the history of mankind.

God bless his soul as he now begins his new life in heaven.

One of the most "out of the box" innovators of all times, RIP Steve, you revolutionized the PC. One of his famous quotes:

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true..
