Mangaluru, Apr 7: The World Konkani Centre in collaboration with 'Michael D'Souza Vision Konkani' have selected some books for holding discussions between Konkani writers and publishers to finalise grants for them,  on Sunday, April 7 at Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangaluru.

Present on the occasion, Datta Damodar Nayak, talked about the importance of books in modern era and said, "Among the amount of books that are written only half of those gets published and out of them only just another 50% of the books are read. The reason for this is negligence of body and mind. To make perfume a lot of flowers need to be used and same way you need to study a lot to know even just a little. Just by changing some words the whole presentation of the story changes and there are multiple types of writing such as reportage and spider type of writing. There are many types of writing but there is style which is everything. Packaging the story is also important. Tradition is important as well. When I was small it was important to know what it means when you say serve me food while giving it to someone in the family but when you are giving it to a beggar you give them food and maybe in terms of meaning it makes not much of sense. It is however different in reality. Travelogues are important as it is not just for today but it is more important once time is gone. We do not care about what happens to anyone else, unless a celebrity dies there is no celebrity, what happens in Manipur no one cares here and it's said that from where you launch the arrow there you will not find any evidence but where it hits there it hurts. If you talk respectfully to your children then they will also try to talk to you with respect."

Delivering the presidential address, C A Nandagopal Shenoy, chairman, Vishwa Konkani Kendra said, "We had cultivated the reading habit from our schools where we had time for library. Humans are such beings that they can talk full day but cannot read even for 2 hours. Some people read to destress or when they want to escape from the reality. Today, Michael D'Souza Vision Konkani will help a lot. I am happy that we got grants for Vishwa Konkani Kendra and this is a theme and we will write multiple books under Vision Konkani."

Melvyn Rodrigues who was also present expressed happiness and said, "We praise the shadow of the tree but not the roots of it. But, the tree is able to provide for fruits and flowersd because of its roots. Such is the situation of writers today. They face a lot of problems hence Michael D'souza Vision Konkani and Vishwa Konkani Kendra is helping. This project, which will start from today has allocated a total sum of Rs.40,000 to be given to writers to support and help them in printing. I am happy that these people have received the grants. Before printing, these books go to the panel.

Allwyn Serao, Edward Sequera, Felci Juliet Lobo. Floyd Kiran Moras, Gladis June Martis. J F D'Souza Attavar. Jais Fernandes. Joseph Dmello, Jason Pareto, Roshan Sequera, Shailendra Mehta, Sonali Petnekar, Sushma Ashok Aroor, Tara Laveena Fernandes, Valerian Sequera, Vincent Pinto, Shilpa, Lalith, Smitha and Srinivas were present.

Prior to this event, a panel discussion was held to shed light on problems faced by konkani writers and to evolve solutions to their problems besides discussing on how to approach publishers.

Titus Noronha welcomed the gathering and the vote of thanks was delivered by Gilbert D'souza. Suchitra compered the programme.

On this occasion, CA Nanda Gopal Shenoy, Datta Damodar Nayak, Gilbert D'Souza, Titus Noronha, Melwyn Rodrigues and Konkani writers and admirers gathered here.
