Mangaluru, Apr 9: A man from Hassan Arakalagoodu, Ganesh Kumar (46), was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sixth Additional District and Sessions Judge of the city on April 8 for strangling his wife to death.
Ganesh, residing in a rented house at Kavoor with his wife, mother, and two children, was found guilty of subjecting his wife to mental and physical torture through daily quarrels.
On July 1, 2020, Ganesh took his wife on a bike ride around 5:30 pm under the pretext of buying groceries. Between 7 pm and 7:20 pm, he strangled her at Anthonykatte and pushed her into a stone quarry. He also threatened his mother-in-law with harm.
The case was filed by Inspector Raghava S. of the Kavoor Police Station. Justice Kantaraju, after conducting the inquiry, convicted Ganesh and sentenced him to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs one lakh. Additionally, he received three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 under IPC section 498 (A), and two years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000 under IPC section 506. The judge also instructed the District Legal Services Authority to provide compensation to the victims.
The investigation was led by Public Prosecutors Jyoti Pramoda Nayaka and B. Shekhar Shetty, while Public Prosecutor Chowdhury Motilal argued for the prosecution.
