Mangalore: Advani's Rath Yatra to Arrive in City on Oct 31

Mangalore, Oct 7: The All India level Rath Yatra proposed to be undertaken by former deputy Prime Minister of the country and national leader of the BJP, Lal Krishna Advani, will pass through the coastal districts of Karnataka. Interestingly, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada will be the only districts the Rath Yatra will touch, although the leader will also fly in between to Bangalore to address a public meeting there. Advani’s entourage will be in the state for two days.

After the Yatra covers Kerala on October 30 and Advani addresses public meetings at Trissur and Kochi, he will fly to Bangalore on the evening of October 30 and address a meeting there. His chariot (Rath) will directly come to Mangalore. He will come to Mangalore by a special flight on October 31 morning and address a public meeting. In the afternoon, he will move to Udupi and address the gathering there. On the evening of October 31, he will reach Uttara Kannada district and stay there overnight. He is supposed to address a couple of public meetings in Uttara Kannada district, but venues have not yet been finalized, it is gathered.

After passing through Uttara Kannada district, Advani’s Rath Yatra will enter Goa. As per the itinerary currently drafted, his Rath Yatra is expected to pass through coastal Karnataka alone in the state, although efforts are being made to make him agree to address public meetings in a couple of more places. In all likelihood, a public meeting with the participation of Advani may be held in Hubli.

During his visits, depending upon the timings, rallies, meetings, etc will be organized. The district and state level BJP leaders have been holding parleys to make the Rath Yatra a success.

The chariot in question is being readied at a workshop of Dilip Chhabria Designs Pvt Ltd at Chindwada, Pune, by using a luxury Volvo bus. The chariot will be provided with facilities like lift, television, computer, public address system, and other accessories that are required for holding meetings with local leaders and resting of Advani including bedroom and a conference room. The entourage will have 18 vehicles including ambulance and security vehicles. The chariot, which will be unveiled for public view on Friday October 7, will travel six hours and cover around 250 to 300 km every day.

The Rath Yatra will be flagged off from Sitab Diara village in Bihar, birth place of Jayaprakash Narayan, harbinger of political change in the country. From Bihar, it will enter Uttar Pradesh and move to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andaman Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Diu and Daman, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. At the fag end of the Yatra, it will move through Himachal Pradesh and conclude at New Delhi.

The Yatra will cover 100 districts spread over 23 states and four union territories over a period of 38 days, covering a total distance of 7,600 km.
