Twelve Bodies in Mangalore Air Crash Wrongly Identified: Report

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 7: In a shocking revelation, the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad has found out that as many as 12 bodies in the 2010 Mangalore air crash were wrongly identified by the families of the victims.

The CDFD had been requisitioned to carry out the DNA tests of the victims.

The families of the victims had claimed the bodies based on basic identification marks such as bodily features, jewellery, clothes and so on.

"While this is how it happens, DNA-based identification is more effective as one can be sure with scientific evidence about the identity of the victim," said Dr Madhusudhan R Nandineni, senior scientist with the CDFD told The Times of India (TOI) which carried the report on Friday October 7.
.
After the tragedy, bodies of 136 victims were identified and handed over to the families, while 22 others were beyond identification.

"In the DNA profiling that was done for the 22 victims comparing their profiles with 32 relatives who were still waiting to identify their kin, the results that came up threw up a shock," TOI reported.

While the identities of 10 of the 22 bodies were established by the Centre based on DNA tests, the remaining 12 did not match the DNA samples of any of the claimants.

"This only show that in the originally claimed body remains of 136 passengers, 12 had been mistakenly identified and claimed by families believing it to be their kin," TOI added.

The results of the tests have been published in a scientific journal 'Current Science'.

Nevertheless, the last rites for the 12 unidentified bodies were conducted as per norms.

    Hi nagesh

Do not mix issues as opposition party does. Work consrtuctvely for the betterment of the society. Politicians are illiterate in humanity. Do not follow their path. We find very few politicians who have done good for the society. If the roots are bad the fruits will be bad. Go to the roots of all parties and check how they have come up. I remember bjp saying that congress,if comes to power will tax your tulsi latte also. This is how they have played religion politics. But the same party has made the life of common man miserable. You have to pay so much bribe to build your own house. Why nobody is raising voice. This is because congress is also involved in this real estate mafia. Keep away from suppporting political parties

May the departed souls rest in eternal peace and the bereaved families must be compensated and let Almiighty God give them enough stength to overcome the loss and sorrow. Let it not happen to anyone in the future and let all flights land safely and happy meetings....God is great...

This is the right thing.

With due respect to those families who have lost their loved ones.

Look from the point of view of the authorities. Assuming some of the victims traveled on a Passport not their own for various reasons, the family members not knowing the name the victim had on the passenger list, gave the real name but the officials could not trace it. What will be the result in this case ?

Well, we can't undo what has happened. This is a good example to us to legalize our identity than traveling on a different person's name. This is not as silly as how it is thought to be.

Blaming others (the airline in this matter) does not wipe out our error.

Its was better not to publish these results which were identified wrongly in public since the family will have a pain in the mind that they didnt do the proper rituals to the dead bodies of their loved once.

One of the worst airline is our national carrier air india and air india express. They cant understand passenger’s problem. Sucking passenger’s blood and making money. Dear…. NRI’s please note our civil aviation minister not ready to Mangalore airport as a international saying that shortage of runway length…but Mr.Vasudev airport director saying any kind of aircraft can land Mangalore airport without any problem ( maximum 180 seater ) if so then why DGCA not ready to as int’l airport ? now DGCA saying shortage of runway if so then how DGCA given landing rights to operate NASA AIR Mangalore to Madina Hajj flight ??

While conducting post mortem, they should've took DNA samples of all the victims & compared it with their survivors to arrive at true claimants.
But when one relative refused to recieve the remaining body as the diseased was short & the body offered was nearly 6 feet, this bungling by doctors came to light.
The Airline's hasty policy also to be blamed for this silly but very irresponsible mistake.
This is nothing but adding salt to the injury.

whenever we readabout Mangalore Air India crash what we find is utter nonsense .
Every single airticket is charged a insurance premium which is covered by Aviation Hull and Liability Insurance Policy.
The claims should have settled within 180 days from the date of air crash. What we read here is simply heart breaking. The mortals which were due for burials might have cremated.

While agony and pain continues...more frustrating addition... AIE is taking legal means to minimum payouts sighting various facts such as monetary worth of the dead! On the other hand corrupt are busy reducing the organisation into heavy loss making company.....while the passenger still pay through the nose an exorbitant price for the budget ticket.
