Moodbidri, Apr 13: The police, on Thursday night, successfully apprehended Guru M P, a teacher at Kallamundkooru High School, who had been evading arrest after being accused of sexually harassing several female students.
The accused, Guru, who had been suspended from the school, had recently applied for anticipatory bail, which was subsequently rejected by the session court.
Following complaints filed by the victims and their parents, a POCSO case was filed against the accused for alleged sexual harassment of multiple minor girls.
Amid public outcry and planned protests demanding the arrest of the accused, the case was transferred to the women's police station in Mangaluru for further investigation. In a joint operation, personnel from both the Moodbidri and women's police stations successfully apprehended the accused.
Guru, who was known for his role as an announcer at school and public events, as well as for his contributions to art and sports activities, has been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
