Puttur, Oct 9:
As many as eight resolutions were passed to safeguard Tulunudu language and culture during the valedictory ceremony of Akhila Bharata Tulu Sammelana here on Saturday October 8.

Some of the resolutions were: to build Tulu University in Udupi, inclusion of Tulu language under 8th schedule of the Constitution, to name Bangalore-Karwar train after Rani Abbakka, to name Mangalore Airport as Tulunadu Airport, to make arrangement for studying Tulu from 6th to 10th standard, to preserve places like Parmale, Pajaka, Kellapatthage, Barkur, Thodikana, Bendra Theertha and Maravanthe.

In his valedictory address, Erya Laxmi Narayana Alva said that with Dr Veerendra Heggade leading the demand for the inclusion of Tulu in the 8th schedule of the Constitution, the dream may be realised soon.

Akhila Bharata Tulu Sammelana is a continuation of Vishwa Tulu Sammelan and there will not be a separate Vishwa Sammelana this time, announced Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

Master Vithal Shetty, Srinivas Rao Pailoor, Vijaykumar Kodialbail, Harish B Karkera, Malar Jayaram Rai, Bellare Vishwanath Rai, Bannanje Babu Amin, Ashwathapura Baburaya Achar, Girish Bharadwaj, P N Achar, Prof Mudambaddithaya and others were honoured on the occasion for their achievements in their respective fields.

Amidst a grand procession and other programmes, a few shortcomings have taught a lesson to the organisers to take more responsibilities in future. After the media highlighted the confusion with regard to the only meal counter at the venue, separate counters for men and women were opened the next day, still it was not adequate. Book stalls made average business, but rain played a spoilsport in the afternoon. Though a good turnout was expected on Saturday, the crowd was sparse. Time schedule ran amok with constant delays.

However, five seminars threw light on Tulu language and culture. The poets' meet lasted for three hours. Thonse Pushkala Kumar’s performance, songs by renowned artistes, and P N Achar's drawings were the highlights. Folk dances, Shobhana, Paddana were relished by the audience.

Scholars A V Navuda, Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, Dr Madhava Peraje, K Kamalaksha, Dr Rajashree, Abhaya Kumar, Dr Poovappa Kaniyoor, Siddakatte Vishwanath Shetty debated on various issues and enriched the minds of those gathered.
