Udupi, Apr 22: “There are two models at the moment. The Karnataka model is a tried and tested approach that has delivered on its promises. It is the only model in India currently being implemented everywhere,” stated Randeep Singh Surjewala, general secretary of the Indian National Congress.
He further elaborated, “We have successfully implemented Gruhalaxmi and fulfilled our promise of the Shakthi scheme, allowing 35 lac women to travel free every day. As of yesterday, 195 crore free bus trips have been recorded. Despite Modi's refusal to supply rice to Karnataka, we are providing monetary compensation equivalent to its value. Karnataka is the only state in India that transfers Rs 58,000 crore directly to beneficiaries. This is indicative of rapid progress.”
"Our guarantee model has been so successful that even the Prime Minister is echoing our promises. Now, the Congress at the center has introduced new guarantees. Once the Congress-led union government is formed with the people's blessings on June 4th, it will transfer Rs 8,500 to women every month. Karnataka women will receive double benefits, including the Rs 2,000 Gruhalakshmi benefit, which will continue. Rahul Gandhi envisions training youths for jobs and providing them with skill training. The Congress government will waive off farmers' loans and ensure MSP. Another universal-level guarantee is insurance for every family. We are reaching out to every door.
"The second model is BJP's 'chombu' model. Despite Kannadigas paying the second-highest taxes, they are given empty pots when it comes to the Rs 58,000 crores from the 15th Finance Commission. We requested drought relief to support our farmers, but all we received was 'chombu'. When we asked for Rs 15 lakh for every account, they handed us 'chombu'. This is a fight for development, inclusivity, and love for the Congress party.
"There are many phases to this election. We have announced 330 seats, but the number will increase. This election is a battle to preserve India’s constitution. The Modi government is openly assaulting the constitution of India, with Hegde in Karnataka, Lallu Singh, and Arul Govil in UP openly stating that they will change the constitution. Changing the constitution means taking away the right to vote. It is an assault on elections, freedom, and fundamental rights. This election is about saving the soul of India," Surjewala said.
KPCC campaign committee chairman Vinay Kumar Sorake, Saleem Ahmed, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, and other leaders were present.
