Kundapur, Apr 23: The Kota police arrested Mohammed Irfan, a native of Bihar, on accusations of stealing gold worth crores of rupees from Kerala and attempting to escape to his native place.
Irfan was apprehended by Kota police at Kota Moorukai on Saturday night, and gold worth crores of rupees was confiscated. Interrogation revealed that Mohammed Irfan is a notorious inter-state thief with numerous theft cases across 13 states in India.
Mohammed Irfan has been arrested multiple times by the police. He targeted houses of cine actors, politicians, and affluent contractors. Once he set his sights on a house, he ensured its burglary, even if it required waiting for an extended period. Most of the time, Irfan operated alone and stole gold worth more than crores of rupees.
Irfan's background is intriguing. He allegedly began stealing at the age of 22, initially to cover the expenses of his younger sister's wedding. Irfan was perceived as a modern-day Robinhood. He retained a small portion of the stolen money and donated most of it to cover wedding expenses, health issues, and road development in his village, earning him the moniker of Robinhood in his community.
Due to the high regard villagers held for Mohammed Irfan, his wife was elected as a member of the zilla panchayat. It has been revealed that his fellow villagers would bail him out whenever he was arrested by the police. He primarily targeted South Indian states such as Kerala, Goa, and Karnataka, claiming that people in these states owned more gold compared to other states in India.
The police were astonished when Mohammed Irfan directed them to search for him on YouTube as ‘Mohammed Irfan Robinhood’. Upon searching, they found several videos documenting Irfan's thefts and the subsequent distribution of money to various individuals.
Further investigation into the intriguing life of Mohammed Irfan is underway by the police.
