Mangalore: 'Work on New Bus Stand to Start in Two Days'

Mangalore, Oct 11 (The Hindu): Minister for Ports, Environment and Science and Technology and in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district J. Krishna Palemar said here on Monday that the work on constructing a bus-stand at Pumpwell here would begin soon.

At a function organised by Mangalore City Corporation to name the airport road from Karnataka Polytechnic Junction to Maravoor after Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the Minister said the project to build the bus-stand at Puumpwell was on. He scotched speculation about the project being put on the backburner.

The Minister said the corporation officials should complete the work within six months.

To question, he said the construction would begin “in one or two days.”

Asked if an issue over constructing an underpass between Mahaveera Circle and Nanthoor Junction with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had been sorted out, the Minister said the NHAI had agreed to consider it favourably.

The corporation Commissioner, Harish Kumar, said it had been planned to start the construction on a low key and expand it in a phased manner. He said the proposed bus-stand would act as the hub for city buses and service buses that operate from satellite stations like Kankanady. Buses currently operating from the State Bank of India terminus would not be shifted to the new bus-stand.

The Minister said pavements and storm-water drains would be built along the 7-km stretch of the four-lane concrete road (Sir M. Visvesvaraya Road) between the KPT junction and Maravoor. Nirmiti Kendra would build them. Builders in the city would provide workers.

Palemar also inaugurated these works.

The Minister said that the road had been concreted at an estimated cost of Rs 29.32 crore. Of this, the corporation had contributed Rs 4.57 crore,

Grant

Rs 12.50 crore had been drawn from State Finance Commission under its grant to the corporation during 2008-09, and Rs 12.25 crore from a Union government scheme called ASIDE (Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities).

Mangalore City South MLA and Deputy Speaker in the Assembly N. Yogish Bhat and Mayor Praveen spoke.

Hey nagesh nayak, bangalore, I know Mr. Palemar very well and I donated some money to BJP too. Do not teach me your stupid mentality to me. I never said Mr. Palamar is taking money but I asked how much money will go for your pocket? Let Mr. Palemar answer for my question. Are you a spoon feeder for Palamar?

Its great news that mangalore is gonna have a new bus stand.Looks like these ministers have forgotten the roads on which buses are running. The roads of mangalore have become so bad specially near jyothi, Alape, kankanady.Hope Our ministers get some free time to look into these roads once they are free from cutting ribbons.

Deepak Shetty, Mangalore i agree with your commentators, but the problem with our kangress support commentators over here that they cannot digest the good development works done by the BJP govt. to be frank in case if the same type of development would have done by secular kangress their comments would have been not the same.

Underpass between Mahaveera Circle and Nanthoor Junction? I don't get it!

Firstly I would want to clarify if it's a underpass that would be constructed or a tunnel?

Underpass is generally meant for pedestrian crossing and tunnels for vehicular movement.

Wikipedia: In the United Kingdom, a pedestrian tunnel or other underpass beneath a road is called a underpass subway.
In the United States that term now means an underground rapid transit system.

What system are we following Mr. Palemar?

    xfiles, Gulf,
You have missed out on followings:-
    1) Who is behind Sand Mafia?
    2) 200 crores of rupees spent in a hurry for elevated concrete road without proper drainage, without footpaths, without parking spaces in Mangalore. Who benefited from this?
    3) The proposal of a ring road preparation of blue print and changing the original plane to pass through some properties owned by these politicians, who will benefit?
    4) People who have 3 cents land will not be given license to build the house, this was implemented and then scrapped. Who wanted to benefit out of this?
    5) We had a very good D.C. in Mangalore. Mr. Ponnuraj. What made him to get a transfer order? to whom he was a hindrance?

nagesh nayak, bangalore will start jumping and shouting Jai Ho! Jai Ho! if these are BJP cadres but, without knowing the real true.

Nagesha, On your every comment you are saying Italian born Italian Born. You are right that they are not doing anything good for India. But what about Pakistan Born Advani who has already praised Jinnah as a secular and great leader when he visited Pakistan. What may be his hidden intention for India? To destroy (Paks Agenda) or to build India. Although World leaders are praising India as an emerging nation. He always criticized the functioning of Indian government. Moreover during his Home Ministers Tenure Three hard core terrorist where handed to Afganistan. And this three are planning to destroy India.Dont be so biased dear.

    Nagesh Nayak,

We at Mangalore are well aware of the HONESTY of your favourite minister. We know where the concrete roads lead and how they are completed before a main road's work is complete. Only what we don't know is how the work of these roads is scheduled together and where the resources originate. However, nobody dares to utter a word because they know what happened to a budding lawyer right in Mangalore.

Besides, what 'xfiles, Gulf' below said is seconded by me word-by-word.

pls ask Palemar, how much land he bought around the new bus stand place. This whoe idea of new bus stand is master planned by Palemar.First he bought land around the new bus stand at very cheap rate , slowly he pushed proposal for new bus stand . Once bus stand is up ,Mr. Palemar is the person who is going to be benefited the most because of appreciation of land prices.
These politicos for their vested interest will do everything.

New Bus stand is not for the benefit for public but for the benefit of Palemar.

    Regards
