Mangaluru, Apr 25: Madhava Prabhu, an 85-year-old retired soldier from Vagga in Bantwal, demonstrated remarkable dedication to his civic duty by casting his vote before succumbing to illness.
Prabhu, who was undergoing medical treatment at a city hospital, sought permission from his doctor to leave temporarily to cast his vote on April 15. Despite his frail health, he returned to the hospital after exercising his democratic right, taking advantage of the Election Commission's facility for elderly voters to cast their ballots from home. Tragically, Prabhu passed away on April 24 while still under medical care.
Before his military service, Prabhu worked as an inspector in the malaria eradication department. After retiring from the army, he served as vice president of the Poornanda Multipurpose Cooperative Society. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son..
