Puttur, Apr 25: A female student, traveling on a sleeper coach of a private bus from Bengaluru to Bantwal, was subjected to inappropriate touching by a young man from another community also on board. The incident occurred near Sakleshpur. The girl, showing remarkable courage, alerted the bus driver after the perpetrator's second attempt. Unfortunately, the driver did not respond to her complaint.
Fellow passengers intervened, identifying the perpetrator as Mohammed Azeem from Laila village in Beltangady. When the girl suggested filing a police complaint at the nearest station, Azeem attempted to escape by jumping out of the bus window. He was later apprehended by the police.
The girl, with the support of her parents, filed a complaint at the Uppinangady police station. Despite the traumatic experience, her bravery was lauded by both co-passengers and local leaders, including RSS leader Prabhakar Bhat, who visited her to express solidarity and offer support for legal action against the perpetrator.
