Pakistan Values Its Ties With Maldives: Khar

Islamabad, Oct 12 (IANS): Pakistan greatly values its relations with the Maldives which are based on shared values, said Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

Khar was talking to her Maldivian counterpart Ahmed Naseem who is currently on a three-day official visit to Pakistan.

The two foreign ministers discussed bilateral, regional and global issues, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

Appreciating the progress made by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in a number of areas, the two ministers agreed that member states should deepen their economic relations further by concentrating on project-oriented cooperation.

They agreed that SAARC could provide an effective and viable mechanism for promotion of peace, development and progress of the region.

The Maldives will host the 17th SAARC Summit on the Addu atoll in its southern province in November this year.
