Dehradun, Apr 30: Uttarakhand's regulatory body has suspended the manufacturing licenses of 14 products from Baba Ramdev's Divya Pharmacy, citing repeated false advertisements claiming their health benefits.
Additionally, criminal charges have been filed against Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, and their company Patanjali for breaches of the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. According to a report by India Today, the affected products include Divya Pharmacy's Drishti Eye Drop, Swasari Gold, and others such as Swasari Vati and Mukta Vati Extra Power.
This development marks a significant setback for Ramdev, who has gained popularity through his television appearances, yoga teachings, and ayurvedic remedies.
The Supreme Court of India has recently reprimanded Ramdev for not adhering to its orders in a legal battle aimed at halting his deceptive advertising practices concerning some ayurvedic products. The license suspensions were effected through an April 15 directive from Uttarakhand’s traditional medicine regulator, though the specifics of the order have not been disclosed publicly as per Reuters.
Mithilesh Kumar from the state regulatory authority confirmed that the suspension of the manufacturing permits was effective immediately.
In the ongoing Supreme Court case, the Indian Medical Association accuses Ramdev's firm, Patanjali Ayurved, of undermining conventional medicine and continuing to issue misleading advertisements despite judicial instructions to cease such activities.
Ramdev has admitted to oversights and has publicly apologized through newspaper advertisements. He has also made personal court appearances, donning his signature saffron robe, to seek forgiveness, although the justices have yet to accept his apology.
The court is now contemplating whether to initiate contempt proceedings against Ramdev.
