Ship Sinks As Soon As It Is Launched

Beijing, Oct 12 (IANS): A luxury cruise ship sank in China immediately after it was launched.

The 17 million yuan ($2.68 million) luxury cruise ship, called "Jiugang", sank in the Yellow River after it was launched in Lanzhou.

The ship sank due to a handling error Sep 29 and it took three days to salvage it. No one was hurt, Shanghai Daily quoted the Nanfang Daily as reporting.

Qiao, an official, said the ship was built by a Sichuan province company and added that the shipyard wrongly calculated the water level on the day of the launch.
