Bengaluru, May 1: Condemning the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for not paying the milk subsidy of Rs 5 per litre since the last eight months, Leader of Opposition in Assembly and senior BJP leader R Ashoka on Wednesday said non-payment of milk subsidy was a sure sign of an empty treasury.
Addressing media persons in Bengaluru, he said the government has kept arrears of milk subsidy to the tune of Rs 700 crore. Instead of spending money on guarantees, the government should have provided better facilities, constructed schools and hospitals, he said.
Ashoka challenged the government to release figures of the Central assistance to the State during the last 50 years of Congress rule instead of attacking the Narendra Modi regime for the injustice in devolution of funds. The senior BJP leader said the Congress government should answer how and why Prajwal Revanna was allowed to fly abroad and mention whether it was not an intelligence failure.
“BJP respects laws and Constitution. We will never allow such sex abuses against women,” he said and challenged the chief minister to step down and hand over power to BJP, which will take action against Prajwal Revanna within 24 hours.
He demanded setting up of a task force to ensure drinking water supply and release Rs 5 crore to each taluk.
HDK demands immediate release of milk subsidy
JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has also urged the government to immediately release the pending arrears of Rs 700 crore as milk subsidy to farmers.
The government had slashed allocations to agriculture by 32% and the denial milk subsidy to farmers was another injustice, Kumaraswamy said milk producers are already reeling under the sharp rise in prices of fodder and the denial of milk subsidy was another burden, he added.
