Byelection for Udupi Lok Sabha Constituency in March?

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Oct 12: An exciting political war is on the cards early next year when Udupi - Chikmaglur Lok Sabha constituency goes for byelections after chief minister Sadananda Gowda, who is the current member of parliament from the region,  vacates his seat and resign from the post.

Sadananda Gowda is seeking election as MLC from Raichur, with N Shankarappa, the current MLC from the district, sacrificing his seat for the CM.

According to political experts in the state, the byelections for Udupi-Chikmaglur constitution is likely to take palce during March-April 2012. Both BJP and Congress parties seem to be already engrossed in nominating their party candidates. For both the parties, it has never been easy to choose candidates, not for lack of probables, but for excess.

JP Hegde and Sunil Kumar

Former MLA from Karkala Sunil Kumar is reportedly a front-runner for BJP candidature for the Udupi-Chikmaglur constituency. His name was heard during 2009 general elections too. In 2008, he lost the MLA election to Gopal Bhandary of Congress. But he was later actively involved in building the party around Karkala.

During 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he worked behind Sadananda Gowda and ensured his victory. Though there is another probable candidate, Udupi district BJP president Udayakumar Shetty, party sources say Sunil Kumar has better odds given his organisational skills.

In Congress, it would be difficult to speculate at present, as the party has always kept its candidate's announcement in suspense, until the last minute. For this reason, the party has lost many of the MP seats in the last election. The losing candidate of Congress party Jaya Prakash Hegde who lost to Sadananda Gowda with a margin of about 25,000 votes had also blamed the party high command for granting him ticket at the last moment, due to which he could not do much ground work.

Sources close to Congress have told daijiworld that Vinay Kumar Sorake, a former MP is also eyeing the Udupi seat. Encounter specialist Daya Nayak's name was making the rounds last time, but he was denied the ticket. He has better chance this time, with all the cases against him cleared.

According to a senior Congress leader in Karnataka, Udupi - Chikmaglur Congress candidate could be J P Hegde, as this time the party wants to give him a fair time and chance.

The third major political party in Karnataka has almost decided to field a newcomer to the party, former Congressman U R Sabhapathi. But Sabhapati could spoil lots of Congress votes and JD(S) winning the Lok Sabha seat will be almost impossible.

IF CONGRESS HIGH COMMAND HAS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO MR.JAYAPRAKSH HEGDE. NO DOUBT 100% HE WILL WIN FROM ATLEAST 1 LAKH VOTES. KARAVALI PEOPLE HAVE REALISED HOW MUCH THEY MISS JP HEGDE IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. THIS TIME UDUPI CHIKAMAGALORE PEOPLE WONT MISS THE CHANCE TO ELECT HIM. BUT 1 THING CONGRESS CAN ONLY WIN IF HEGDE IS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO CONTEST. OR ELSE SURELY BJP. NO ONE CAN REPLACE MR.HEGDE. AFTER JP HEGDE JOINED CONGRESS IN 2008. CONGRESS HAS GOT "AANE BALA" IN UDUPI DISTRICT. 1000'S OF YOUTHS JOINED CONGRESS AFTER HIS ENTRY. HE IS GOOD ORGANIZER, GOOD WORKER, GENTLEMAN, WELL EDUCATED, DIGNIFIED. OTHER THAN THE PARTY. HEGDE HAS HIS OWN PERSONAL CHARM. "JAYANNA" WE ARE WITH YOU. GO AHEAD.

Praveen, Udupi you might be knowing what happened in Kandhar and why the terrorist was released. The terrorist was released because a plane travelling so many innocent indians was hijacked by terrorist and they were demanding release of terrorists inorder to release those passengers. It was a tough decision for the govt to take, but saving innocent indians was most important so govt had to release the terrorist, but cant help with the secular kangress who always play double standard politics. You commented that NDA govt did the wrong thing. I will ask you one thing what you would done if you were a minister of NDA govt and was responsible to take decision for that situation? What would have been your decision for the same Kandhar type situation.

Mr.Vinay Kumar Sorake is the most appropriate candidate for the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency as he he dynamic and a genuine person. He has done a lot of good work during his tenure as an MP from this constituency (1999-2004).He is a non corrupt politician and he is not selfish!!He has been serving the people of Udupi and mangalore even though he isn't in power right now .He has set up offices in both the constituencies to help him reach out to the people and help solve their problems!!t has been more than 7 years that he has been serving the people throughout the coastal belt of Karnataka n beyond.Even as an MP he was easily accessible to the people and he would visit villages inorder to get to know the griefs and problems of the people!!And the congress MUST consider giving it's party ticket to Mr.Sorake as he is national leader and has more chances of winning compared to Mr.Hegde!!And more importantly he is a honest congressman and has been rigorously serving the party for more 4 decades weras mr.Hegde joined the party in 2008 and has not been able to prove himself since then as he lost on both 2008 MLA election as well as 2009MP election!!
Inorder to defeat the BJP and curb castism someone of Mr.Vinay Kumar Sorake's caliber is required!!

Foolish people of Karnataka believe in cast based politics, no value for right candidate. Hegde has drawn n utilized all the funds available for the betterment of his constituency despite he won twice as independent. Many of our current Ministers don't know English or Hindi. BJP is a party of uneducated people. Full of corrupt n lazy guys. No power in the state. No longterm plans. No thinking, ofcourse no brain.

Give a chance to the person who has good leadership, organizational skills and who can speak good English. Today there was program "ನಮ್ಮ ಮಿನಿಸ್ಟ್ರ Englishu" in 9AM news of SUVARNA 24X7. Renukacharya, Sommanna and Halappa were asked to speak in English. They could not utter a single sentence. Even R Ashok struggled a lot to speak.

MPs should not be elected just to fill the head count. They are representing our country. They should fight for our rights. If they cant speak, Blr-Mlr day train also might get diverted to Kerala.

Going by the personnel Calibre JPH is the best man.He is a Honest man that much one can vouch for.If bunts vote wont get divided then JPH has a good chance this time thanks to mismanagement of State Administration. Plus the Blind vote bank of congress is always there irrespective of who is contesting as they still think they are voting Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi who according to them are the saviour family of India.
Sunil Kumar may have a though fight this time unless they start the good ground work backed by the State Govt in organising & uniting the usual BJP vote Bank.
Anyways the Kahani mein twist will be depending upon who will JDS feild. If JDS confirms UR Sabhapathi then Sunil Kumar's burden & pressure is almost reduced by half. They dont have to sweat much to win & JDS will ensure JPH does not win.
Also JDS can play around this time , Kumarswami has a good bargaining tool to settle some scores with Congress. He can trade in for the center to keep his family, assets & affairs safe from the eyes of Lokayukta & mainly from CBI in return of not giving ticket to URS & spoiling Congress's fun. On the other hand it would not be surprise if Chiddu may threaten from Delhi about sending CBI to Anithakka's house or Radhika's Bunglow if JDS gives ticket to URS.
At the end of the day congress's fate r in the hands of JDS as usual they have to brag only on the leftovers of BJP(Yeddi-Reddy saga) or JDS as they dont have any points to talk about themselves left.
