Mangaluru, May 2: More than 200 students residing in the hostel of Mangalore University staged a protest in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence on Wednesday night, accusing poor quality food being served to them. They placed utensils containing stale rice in front of the VC's residence as a mark of protest.

The students alleged that for quite some time, the food quality has been subpar and the kitchen staff has been unresponsive.

The VC, who was in Bengaluru, engaged in a telephonic conversation with the protesting students and assured them of strict action against those responsible. However, the students urged the VC to visit the spot. Later, Raju Mogaveera, the registrar, rushed to the scene and held discussions with the students, but the protest continued late into the night.

Konaje police arrived at the scene and managed the situation.
