Bantwal/Puttur, May 2: Vehicle congestion occurred in various parts of the twin districts, including B C Road and Uppinangady, as many vehicles hit the road due to weddings and other auspicious occasions on Wednesday, May 1.
The traffic jam started at Narayana Guru Circle at B C Road and extended to Dharmasthala Highway and Bantwal market road. The congestion, which began at noon, lasted until 3.30 pm.
Despite Wednesday being a public holiday for Labour Day, the increase in auspicious occasions exacerbated the traffic congestion. Additionally, two separate accidents occurred at Narayana Guru Circle on B C Road, further adding to the chaos.
Sutesh K P, the Bantwal traffic PSI, and personnel controlled vehicle movement at B C Road Circle and other nearby areas. However, in some places, drivers did not adhere to police instructions, which delayed the easing of traffic movement.
In Uppinangady, from 11 am to 1.30 pm, traffic was blocked from NH 75 four-lane road to Nejikaru of Ilantila village in Beltangady taluk, covering a stretch of around two km. A significant queue of vehicles formed near the old bus stand, opposite the police station, and along Car Street.
