Police Nab Kidnappers of Industrialist, Recover Money


Noida, Oct 13 (IANS): More than 20 days after a Noida-based industrialist Kapil Gupta was kidnapped, the Noida police in a joint operation with the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested the kidnappers and recovered Rs.4.25 crore from their possession.

Giving details to IANS, the Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Narayan said Kapil Gupta had been freed by his kidnappers after they received the ransom of Rs.5 crore on Sep 25, and his family did not lodge a case.

But the police continued investigation. Through its effective surveillance the police arrested 10 kidnappers from Meerut, recovered Rs.4.25 crore. The gang leader was identified as Kapil Jaat and Anshul Bawra and they used to run operations from Delhi, Noida and Meerut.

ADG (NCR) K.L. Meena said, "We are tracking the role of some Greater Noida based realtors involved in the case. Preliminary investigation shows that Gupta was kept in Greater Noida but the deal to release Gupta was struck in Meerut."

Gupta, who runs an electronics company in sector 6, went missing after dropping an employee at Ashram around 7.45 p.m. on Sep 21. Sonia the wife of the missing industrialist called back and found his phone out of coverage area. Sonia informed the police around 11 p.m. that her husband is missing.

The victim's family said, after negotiating with the kidnappers regarding the ransom amount, that two family members went to a specified place near Meerut to hand over the money.
