Haveri, May 5: KPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar slapped a municipal council member who put his hand on the shoulders of the former. Later the member was whisked away by bodyguards and Shivakumar's security staff personnel.

Hundreds of Congress workers were waiting to welcome D K Shivakumar who was on a campaign trail of Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency where the party's nominee is Vinod Asoti.

Shivakumar arrived near the party workers who had assembled and he got down from the car. As soon as he got down local Congress leader and member of Savanoor municipal council Allaudiin Maniyar placed his hands on  DKS's shoulders. Enraged by Allauddin's act, the deputy chief minister slapped the former on his face in full public glare.

This incident occurred at Savanoor town of Haveri district on Saturday in the night. Allauddin Maniyar wanted to protect DKS from the party workers. He raised his hands behind Shivakumar's shoulders. However, in a rush his hands went over Shivakumar's shoulders. Without knowing the actual reason, DKS slapped Allauddin, who was in turn slapped by the police and shoved away.

The video of DKS slapping Alauddin has gone viral on the social media. Some netizens have expressed their anguish over Shivakumar's unruly behaviour while others have supported his action as it is not right for people to put their hands on the shoulders of politicians, senior leaders and the deputy chief minister.
