Mangaluru, May 6: In a car accident that occurred late on Saturday night at Babbukatte near Thokkottu, medical students who were in the car miraculously escaped with minor injuries.
A high-tension electricity pole was broken due to the impact of the collision. Locals had to bear the brunt of a power outage until Sunday afternoon.
The students, from a medical college in Deralakatte, were traveling from Thokkottu to Deralakatte when the incident happened. They attempted to overtake a tipper truck, but at the same time, the truck driver made a right turn. In an effort to avoid a collision with the truck, the car driver made a sharp left turn, causing them to lose control of the vehicle. The car hit the electricity pole, crashed into the iron fencing on the roadside, and overturned.
Other motorists passing by rushed to help and pulled the students out of the car. Fortunately, all of them sustained only minor injuries. The car was removed from the scene around noon on Sunday, and a new electricity pole was installed.
A case related to this incident has been registered at the south traffic police station in the city.
