Bantwal, May 7: A six-member gang, arriving in two cars, waylaid a KSRTC bus, abused, and assaulted the driver, and damaged the bus over a matter of giving way to the car on the evening of May 5 at Dasakodi near Mani in the taluk.

Krishnappa, a resident of Punjalakatte, is the driver of the bus who was assaulted by the gang. The bus, belonging to the KSRTC Mangaluru depot, was moving from Mangaluru to Somwarpet. As it reached Dasakodi around 4 pm, the accused waylaid the bus.

The gang picked a quarrel with the driver for not giving them way to overtake on a one-way road at Kalladka, where highway work is ongoing. They assaulted the driver and damaged the front windshield and side mirror of the bus. The loss is estimated to be Rs 30,000.

A case is registered at Bantwal city police station.
