Jagalur, Oct 14: In a sudden development, former mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Purandaradasa Kuloor was arrested in Jagalur of Davanagere district here on Friday October 14 on charges of trying to excavate gold illegally.

Jabir, Mohammed, Abdul Rehman, Siddique, Ponappa of Kodagu, Rajesh Shetty, Padmanabha Bhat, of Mangalore, Basavaraj, Mahantesh of Bellary and Rangappa of Jagalur were also arrested.

According to fresh reports coming in, the mastermind was Rangappa who called the others from various places with the lure of finding gold.

The team had arrived in Tarehalli village, Chowdamma temple located in Ranga Durga Reserve forest area, believing that there was a gold mine in the area. There were 15 members in all, however, four managed to escape from police.

Bilichodu police on information given by the villagers rushed to the spot at around 3 am in the morning and found them digging at the spot. Police took all of them into custody, including the former mayor of Mangalore.

Two cars worth Rs 5 lac each and two motorbikes were seized by the police. They were charged with damaging government property, destroying crops and digging a hole at the spot.

Sources in Jagalur told Daijiworld that now they have been presented before the judge at his residence.

Purandaradasa Kuloor was elected the mayor of Mangalore in June 2004. Prior to that he had been in the police, which he left to joint politics. He was also a national-level sportsman.

Courage is good but if it is used for constructive and ve way, then it yield positive result. Even robbers use courage for robbers it is destructive.

Invention is very good quality but invention on forest property as it is not their inherited but of the govt. is absolutely wrong as they do not have the proper license.

Use good thoughts in right path will definitely yield good result. Even if the goal is right but the way to achieve it is wrong, definitely it will not yield good result.

I THINK MAYOR MEANS FIRST PERSON OF DISTRICT WHO SHOULD HAVE SOME IDEALOGIES IN LIFE. THIS SHOWS HIS LIFE FROM POLICE TO POLITICS TO POLORISATION. HOWEVER, WORD "POL" IS GROWING WITH LETTERS ADDED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. KEEP IT UP. HARD WORK NEVER GO USELESS.

The sky rocketing price of gold has made these men so much greedy that they took to illgal means and that too a stature of Purandar Kuloor is not spared from this temptation.. But readers please make a point that these people didnt rob banks or houses, didnt kill any one for booty. They took to some hard manual work to dig out some gold. They didnot get the processed gold... They need to spend some more money to process it and extract it from the soil... Though this activity is illegal, but we cant compate these men to Reddys. They just took shovel, pix axe to dig the earth and not big earth movers... I really pity them for their ignorance... They are not criminal in its sense but misguided and misconceived men... May God guide them.
