Sullia, Oct 14: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children drowned in a lake at Bellarampady in Ubaradka - Mittoor village, near here on Friday October 14. It was suspected to be a case of suicide.

The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Sharmila, wife of Padmanabha Bhat of Mucchirupadav, Peruvai in Bantwal taluk, their son 6-year-old Sudhanva and daughter 8-month-old Sneha.

Two days ago, Sharmila had come to her parental' house at Ubaradka – Mittoor along with Padmanabha and their two children. Padmanabha left for his native on Friday morning, while Sharmila's father Gopalakrishna went to Sullia. Sharmila's mother Lalita, who was busy with her daily chores, had seen her along with the children near the lake besides a farm at about 11 am on Friday.

When Lalita returned a while later, she was shocked to find the dead bodies of her daughter and grandchildren floating in the lake. It was not known whether it was a case of suicide or if her daughter had accidentally slipped and fallen into the water.

Sharmila had cordial relations with her in-laws and husband, and there was no scope for committing suicide, said Gopalakrishna Bhat.

Padmanabha and Sharmila were married eight years ago. Sharmila had gone to Padmanabha’s house three months after giving birth to Sneha and returned to her parental house a few days ago.

Sullia circle inspector Taranath and sub-inspector Praveen Nilammanavar paid a visit to the spot.  The bodies were placed in Sullia government hospital for autopsy.

This is so unfortunate and heartbreaking to hear. How long will we just sit and watch such incidents take place?
