Mangaluru, May 13: The Mother’s Day celebration was a momentous occasion that brought together single mothers from different parishes to honour and celebrate the invaluable role they play in lives. The event began with invocation by Sr Evelyn Bennis.
Throughout the programme, various activities were organized to entertain and uplift the spirits of all attendees. Lynette Castelino, with her warm and welcoming presence, ensured that the event ran smoothly and that all guests felt appreciated and cherished.
As the day unfolded, the bond between mothers from the deaneries of Puttur, Vittal, Bantwal, Moodbidri, and Belthangady grew stronger, fostering a sense of community and sisterhood. Laughter, love, and joy filled the air as stories were shared, memories were made, and connections were deepened.
The guests included Fr Valerian D’Souza, the vicar forane of Bantwal deanery, Sunil Veigas – the vice president, Manohar D’Costa, the secretary of the parish council, Infant Jesus Church, Modankap and Anita Frank, secretary commission for women, Mangalore diocese.
During the programme, Fr Valerian commended the organizing committee and extended congratulations. He emphasized the importance of Mother’s Day celebrations and urged everyone to cherish and pray for their mothers. He shared a touching story illustrating a mother's love and care during her illness. Mothers' sacrifices cannot be repaid, as they play a crucial role in families by nurturing and wishing well for them. It is essential to maintain family unity and provide a nurturing environment for children. Fr Valerian expressed gratitude for the service and blessings shared during the programme.
Anita provided a concise overview of commissions for women and discussed various programmes that have been implemented over the past year.
Usha Fernandes introduced Dr Anjum Iftikar, a surgeon and specialist in gynaecological oncology at Yenepoya Hospital, who spoke about the importance of regular screenings and vaccinations in preventing cervical cancer. Dr Iftikar stressed the need for women to prioritize their health and well-being by staying informed and proactive about their gynaecological health. She encouraged everyone present to spread the word about the significance of early detection and seeking medical advice at the first sign of any concerning symptoms. As the session came to a close, Dr Iftikar left the audience with empowering words about unity in the face of health challenges and the importance of supporting one another through knowledge, compassion, and understanding. The informative and engaging talk concluded with a round of applause, inspiring everyone to take charge of their health and spread awareness in their communities.
Mercy Menezes introduced Prof Jasmine Vas as the speaker, a professor at Yenepoya University in Deralakatte. Prof Jasmine addressed the challenges women encounter and strategies to manage such situations in the session. Issues like handling money difficulties, family problems, and balancing time for family were discussed. In the midst of a busy life, finding time for oneself becomes a challenge. It is essential to prioritize questions like one’s identity, purpose, values, and actions. Emphasizing the importance of self-care, maintaining a positive attitude, and nurturing children within the family were highlighted. Providing tips on self-reliance to women, the session referenced Mother Mary as a role model of care, love, and independence.
Renisha and her team organized games to keep everyone entertained. Jeshma warmly greeted the guests, and Anita Frank delivered the vote of thanks. Prizes were awarded to the game winners, and the programme concluded with a sumptuous lunch.
