Dubai: Devadiga Ladies Display Cookery Skills through Variety of Delicious Dishes

Dubai, Oct 15: The Ladies wing of the Devadiga Sangha here organized their inaugural event -cookery competition at Hotel Fortune Plaza Al Ghusais, recently.

The competition was designed to highlight the traditional culinary delights of coastal Karnataka. This first event by the ladies was a grand success and served as an excellent kick-start to the upcoming set of activities by the wing.


Ashwini Kalyan welcomed the ladies to the event and the function commenced with Vinaya Sudhakar Devadiga’s melodious devotional prayer. 

The three esteemed judges were Survana Satish Poojary, Asha Harish Amin and Shailaja Yadava Kotian.  All three judges were felicitated with a bouquet and token of appreciation by Shobha Anand, Mallika Kadri and Vani Uday Bijoor. Yashoda Mohandas introduced and welcomed the judges and the contestants at the gathering.

The fabulous arrays of dishes specially prepared at home were displayed out for judges who had the difficult task of choosing the winner. Padmavalli Sanjay, Mallika Narayan Devadiga and Sharmila Harish Sherigar accompanied the judges.

To add spice and variety to the programme, Vani Uday Bijoor performed a beautiful devotional dance after which she showed her dancing versatility by grooving to the Hindi song -Aaja Nachle. Later, Ashwini Kalyan came back to the dais and spoke about simple Household tips which would make the life of the ladies much easier at home.

 It was fun and games time, and the ladies duly did that by indulging in their favorite game, bingo. Wonderful raffle gifts were given away which was arranged by Kiran Nithyanand Beskoor, Dr Gayathri Bharath Kumar and Nanda Ramesh Devadiga. 

When it came to the main business of the competition the ladies had to prepare and present their Mangalorean style dishes in the following categories of competition. They were:-

Category- A - Adde or Roti
Category -B - Curry (Veg or non Veg)
Category -C - Sweet

Every section was well presented by the ladies and certainly gave a hard time to the judges in choosing the winner. Knowing their tough job the Devadiga Sangha Ladies wing extended sincere thanks to the three judges for giving time and expertise in this respect.

Winners of the cookery competition were Yashoda Mohandas who prepared Cucumber kenda da Adde and Sharmila Harish Sherigar who made Padthrade gasi, Yashoda S Devadiga who made Kundapur chicken curry with Gunda(kottige), Rekha D Kumar who prepared  Kashi Halwa, Shashi D Kumar who made Ragi Halu Bai, King Fish Puli Munchi, Kundapur chicken curry, Kashi Halwa and Ragi Haalu Bai.

The exciting and colorful event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Gayatri Bharath.
