Doha: Konkani Music Enthusiasts Await 'Wilfy Nite'

Doha, Oct 15: Konkani music buffs in Qatar are set for a memorable musical treat with the historic 'Wilfy Nite' to be staged for the first time abroad without the singing legend Wilfy Rebimbus. The show has been organised to pay rich tributes to the singing legend. The songs to be rendered during the show are composed by late Wilfy Rebimbus as well as his children Veena and Vishwas.

The event will be staged under the prestigious banner of Mangalore Cultural Association, Doha-Qatar at Doha Cinema on Friday October 21 at 5.30 pm.

Wilfy’s troupe comprising of 14 members will be flown in from Mangalore. They include Konkan Myna Meena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, Ivan Sequeira, Babita Pinto, Charleen Rebimbus; the popular music director duo who have been associated  with Wilfy since long  - Pappan and Joswin Pinto along with Peethambaran; ace comedian Adolphus Cutinha (Dolla Mangalore) and others. The show will be hosted by compere-beyond-compare Leslie Rego.

Veena Rebimbus who resides in Doha, and Vishwas Rebimbus from Mangalore are also among the prime attractions of the show.




 

Scanzy Alfred, Chris Misquith, Renita Lobo and Felita Fonseca will dance to Wilfy’s rhythmic evergreen numbers.

The event will also give a rare opportunity to the singing stars of Doha who excelled in 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' contests in 2008 and 2010.

GVOM-2 runner-up Preema Pinto and GVOM-2 finalist Rupert Lobo, along with Remy D’Souza and Naveen Pinto will join the other talented singers from the MCA family.

The songs will comprise of Wilfy’s Golden Old Hits along with some new songs composed by his children Veena and Vishwas. As the title says "The Legacy Continues..."

Speaking to Daijiworld, Harry Lobo, president of MCA has promised this to be a special treat to the Konkani music lovers.

    The glow of show will be missed tremendously but the show must go on for Konkani music to survive. Surprisingly local singers included in Wilfy show is appreciated.
    Wilfy would have been proud to watch his children performing their own compositions during his life time rather than now.
