Bangalore: From Jail, Yeddyurappa Now Lands in Hospital

Bangalore, Oct 16 (IANS): Jailed former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will be in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the state-run Sri Jayadeva hospital here for the next two days as he is suffering from multiple health problems and mental stress, a top doctor said Sunday.

"Yeddyurappa is kept in ICU for observation and a series of tests to assess his condition and prescribe treatment as he is having high blood pressure, high sugar level and body pains. He is also under severe stress," Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research director C.N. Manjunath told IANS here.

Within hours after being jailed late Saturday by a trial court in graft cases related to land scams, Yeddyurappa, 68, was shifted to the hospital after he complained of chest pain and back pain in the wee hours of Sunday.

"When Yeddyurappa was brought here around 2 a.m., he was having chest discomfort and vomiting sensation. Preliminary investigations showed he was stressed out with high blood pressure (100-180) and high blood sugar as he is diabetic," Manjunath said.

Manjunath is the son-in-law of former prime minister and Janta Dal-Secular (JD-S) president H.D. Deve Gowda.

Initial tests such as ECG, echo and angiogram revealed that Yeddyurappa's health parameters were not normal and required treatment, besides full rest.

"A five-member medical team has been formed to monitor Yeddyurappa's health, conduct further tests and keep him in ICU as he needs to take complete rest. Further stress or strain will complicate his health," Manjunath pointed out.

Admitting that high-profile personalities, celebrities and politicians tend to fall suddenly ill when jailed or prosecuted, the eminent cardiologist said, unlike ordinary people, VIPs face tremendous stress and pressure of undue attention, especially from the media, and their large number of) followers and relatives.

"It's common among the high-profile, including celebrities and politicians to be stressed out and feel the heat of being under relentless media watch and undue concern of their near and dear over their well-being. So in the case of Yeddyurappa, who is not only aged but also having a medical history of being diabetic, suffered a mild stroke recently," Manjunath said.

In a related development, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda visited the hospital with some of his cabinet colleagues to enquire about Yeddyurappa's health and wish him speedy recovery.

"Though Yeddyurappa's health is stable, by and large, he is not keeping well and needs medical attention. Due to ageing and multiple risk factors, he is vulnerable to endure stress or strain of any kind," Manjunath added.

The bail application of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's first chief minister in south India was Saturday rejected by Lokayukta (ombudsman) special court judge N. Sudeendra Rao and an arrest warrant was issued as Yeddyurappa was not present in the trial court.

Rao not only rejected Yeddyrrapa's bail plea but also declined to exempt him from being present in the court on health grounds.

Former BJP minister for endowments (muzarai) Krishnaiah Shetty, who was also remanded in a week-long judicial custody along with Yeddyurappa is lodged in the Parpanna Agrahara jail as his bail plea was also rejected.

I think for all the politicians they should make Thorough medical checkup compulsory . If they are fit then only election commission should give them opportunity for contesting in election.
If they eat our money atleast we will have option to bring them in front of justice. Now things are really going bad as almost of the corrupt politicians are patients and victims of Heart / Chest Pains... !!!!

Arrested politicians who get sick should be admitted to the general ward of government hospitals and not deluxe rooms in private hospitals. They should be given an opportunity to personally experience the government hospital facilities and hospitality which ordinary citizens have to face.

BS-Y is in trouble for his alleged involvement in a multi-crore land scam. Documents show that BS-Y bent every rule in the book, only to ensure allotment of land for his sons and other family members. BS-Y’s eldest son Raghavendra is the biggest beneficiary in the land-for-fly-scheme playing out in Karnataka. BDA rules say if Raghu or his family own property in B’lore then he is not eligible but documents clearly show that Raghu has lied in an affidavit saying he owns no other property in B’lore. He forgot that he already owns a mansion at Manyata in B’lore.
In another case BS-Y denotified land acquired by the BDA in KR Puram to favour his sons and son-in-law Sohan Kumar. BS-Y is also accused of favouring his daughter Umadevi in setting up a BPO. She got two acres of land on the outskirts of B’lore. There are also allegations of the family members getting over 5 acres of land in their home town Shimoga for a hospital and 2 acres for a factory in B’lore.
Another 11 acres denotified in favour of his sons in March this year are now worth Rs 181 crore. Interestingly, most of these revelations are coming from Kumaraswamy, who was the CM when BS-Y was his deputy. They both have violated every rule.
Every time the BDA advised against denotification of some land because it was against the law, BS-Y immediately called for the file to his office. Order after order by BS-Y’s secretary gave only one direction to the Urban Dev Dept - 'please just post the file to the CM's office'.

This was expected and this is new policy in Karnataka. If any VIP corrupt politician ( Who looted Crores) he will be transferred to a Luxury hospital within 24 hours. If any common man jailed for robbing 100 Rupees , he will die in Jaol even if he get real heart attack...

I think they should upgrade the Jaol for Luxury levels with VIP facilities so that they no need to transfer often Jaol-Hospital...
Our Money !!! We pay tax .. These corrupt people looted our tax already .. Again we are spending our money for their VIP treatment in Jaol / Hospital .. Kab Sudrega India !!!

Yes. I completely agree with you. It is a shame on our law system.

But i feel now a days it is not easy to fool the judicial system. Halappa escaped from arrest giving health issues, but Katta Subrahmanua Naidu still struggles to get of jail by giving health related reasons. I think court has now understood these culprits tricks.

We need a judiciary system which gives rigorous punishment to doctors who give false medical judgement.

if he his sick person how come he cm, if he his very weak, why he accepted cm post, cm post always taken by strong person not like weak person, doctors and hospital staff should not entain this 3rd class man. yeddy should be treated as a common man.
All his family should be sent to jail, one yeddy comes in court have to release family member.

Yeddi has been diagnosed with acute land scamitis. Patients usually display symptoms of talking crap, cheating people & coughing up too much cash.

Such patients should be treated with utter disrespect by thrashing up their back side three times a day preferably in public. An overdose of this dosage will only help in curing the patient.

Patients with similar diagnostic history : Raja, Kalmadi, Sonia G, Mayawati, Lalu ,Advani,Marans, Karunanidhi, Jayalalitha , Reddy bro's and many others.
