Udupi, Oct 17: In an accident that occurred at Herur near Brahmavar in the taluk on the night of Saturday October 15, two motor bike-borne youth lost their lives after their vehicle skid off the road.

The victims have been identified as Ramesh Bhat (22) from Aroor Tenkabettu near Kunjal, and Sandesh Adiga (22) from Kumragodu near Brahmavar.

The two were proceeding towards Brahmavar from Udupi, when the tyres of the bike skidded, throwing them off. An unidentified vehicle crushed them under its wheels immediately thereafter, before speeding away. Both of them died due to excessive bleeding. It could not be ascertained as to whether the killer vehicle was following them or came from the opposite direction.

Sandesh Adiga, eldest son of Subrahmanya Adiga and Vatasala, had completed BBM degree course in Milagres College Kallianpur. He was discharging duties as a priest of a temple near his home. Adiga also took part in catering assignments often. Ramesh Bhat, son of Rajaram Bhat and Rama Bhat, had completed his graduation from Barkur government PU college. He was an agent for ING Vysya Insurance, apart from working as a caterer. Bhat had discussed with his friends about the catering assignment that was to be executed on Sunday.

It is learnt that Adiga had also passed on the telephone number of his home to some passersby, but none came forward to save him. It is believed that both the youth would have survived if timely medical help was extended to them.

Various dignitaries including MLA, K Raghupati Bhat, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, B N Shankar Poojary, former state minister, K Jayaprakash Hegde, and others have mourned the untimely demise of the youngsters and offered condolences to the bereaved families.

It is beyond comprehension to condone this sheer apathy shown towards these two precious lives that could have been saved with a little prudence by the passers bye. Very tragic indeed.

It`s very sad that two precious lives are lost - the young men and the budding future entrepreneurs are gone forever! My condolences to the bereaved families. It will be very hard for them to bear the pain. It is highly to be condemned the vehicle that accidentally crushed these men did not stop to help, and therefore, be severely dealt with. It is a shame that passers by also did not rush in to help to take them to the hospital etc.

This is how it goes. Now a days people will think that if they gone to help there are other court procedures to face, Police station etc etc. These things made people to ignore others emergencies. A Good Samaritan who would have straight away taken them to the hospital, unfortunately it’s the youngster’s bad time I can say.

Shocking news. May their soul rest in peace. The real culprtis are police and their useless procedures which scares samaritans from helping people in distress and in need of medical help during accidents and emergency.

What can we do to control these heavy vehicles. I think it is time we implement the GCC road rules - timings for heavy vehicles. The heavy vehicles like trucks and dumpers and not allowed to enter the city during peak hours from morning 0600 hours to noon 1500 hours. In mangalore highways, we should implement something similar to this or a different one. If two wheeler skids off, they are sure to be crushed under the heavy vehicles. This is the second case in a month now. The 1st one was the accident near yekkur where the bike rider lost control and fell on the road, to be crushed from a truck which was behind the bike.
