Mangaluru, May 20: Ghost or spirit marriage recently made news in Tulunadu due to an advertisement placed by a family searching for a groom who had died 30 years ago for a girl who also died 30 years ago. This matter has now reached a rational conclusion. A groom from Bayaru has been chosen, and the marriage will take place in the Tulu calendar month of Aati.
The baby girl, who was just one week old when she died 30 years ago, had not even been given a name. Now, her family has decided to marry her spirit to a boy who also died 30 years ago.
The family received several responses to their advertisement searching for a groom. Later, during the Prashna Chintane (a form of divination), it was revealed that the groom from Bayaru was the right match.
A relative of the deceased baby girl, who resides in Puttur, explained that the marriage, which could not be performed when the girl and boy were alive, will now be done symbolically. Next Sunday, the groom’s family will visit the bride’s family, followed by a reciprocal visit and the engagement ceremony. The marriage is scheduled for the Tulu calendar month of Aati.
The family of the spirit bride from Puttur mentioned that there was extensive discussion regarding the spirit marriage. Hundreds of families contacted them, many of whom expressed the difficulties in arranging such a marriage due to the rarity of finding the exact bride and groom. However, it was also revealed that many families were interested in performing such spirit marriages, raising awareness about the practice.
